Movie Licensing
MPLC & Swank

Do you play movies in your park?
Whether you're hosting a float 'n' flick movie night at your pool, or playing a movie in your rec room, copyright laws require anyone playing movies or television shows in public to get permission from the creators. A movie license provides that permission and allows them to continue to make movies and shows.

Why do you have to pay to show a movie in public?
Just like how RV park owners and operators may have a copyright on their business name, scriptwriters and production companies own the rights to the content they have created. A license with either Swank or MPLC will cover RV park owners and operators for movies they play for their guests, and also support the creativity of the creator and the behind-the-scenes employees to continue working and creating content in their industry.

Which provider should you choose - Swank, or MPLC?
A Swank and MPLC license covers movies and television shows under big names like Paramount, Sony, Warner Brothers, DreamWorks, MGM, Universal, and Walt Disney Pictures. Each license is a little different, so we are here to help you make the best decision for your business, whether that is one license or two.

Is there an enrollment deadline?
The deadline to be licensed for the upcoming year is December 1, alhtough you are able to sign up for movie licensing at any point during the year; just keep in mind that there are no prorated or partial payments for obtaining a license partway through the year.

How much does movie licensing cost, and how do you sign up?
California Outdoor Hospitality Association has negotiated a discounted rate for all of our members with both Swank and MPLC. To learn more about movie licensing, the pricing structure, and how to sign up, call the CalOHA office!
