Wildfire Information for RV Parks & Campgrounds

ACTIVE FIRES (CALFIRE)
The 2021 California fire season has the potential to be one of the worst in history. This is hard to believe after a devastating 2020 season, in which more than 4 million acres burned in nearly 10,000 fires. Research has shown that California's wildfire season has been getting worse every year due to two factors: climate change, and an increased risk of human-caused fires in once uninhabited areas.

2020 saw a dramatic 40% increase in camping. Many campers who could not secure an available site in RV parks or campgrounds opted to disperse or free camp anywhere and everywhere they could find. As consumers push further into those outdoor spaces, the opportunity for wildfire increases. In fact, 95% of all wildfires in California are caused by humans.

So, what do you need to know to help keep your business and campers safe this season? If you haven't done so already, NOW is the time to get your property and employees prepared for the worst-case scenario. After you're done reviewing the information and resources below, help a neighbor, check on your community, and ensure your neighborhood is wildfire safe and resilient. Working together, we can all get through another fire season safely.
